Brand Highlight: Follian

Updated: Jul 8, 2021

Welcome to Follain, a store whose aesthetic is based around being the bathroom of your dreams. You may be wondering, why are you writing about a beauty company on a sustainable style blog? Well, that’s because they’re not just any beauty company; they’re an extremely clean beauty company. Follain carries numerous brands such as Indie Lee, Osea, and even their own name-brand line of products. Each product must go through an evaluation based on ethical production before even being considered. Follain examines the ingredients for each product they sell, making sure they’re entirely non-toxic (EWG certified) and ethically sourced and produced. On their website, you can find an extensive list of unsafe ingredients they refuse to allow in products that they sell, so you can be sure you’re feeding your skin with real vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.

Today, I want to focus on some of their most sustainable practices; their refillable soap program is the most notable. In-store or online, you can purchase a glass bottle of their ‘everything soap’ which can be used for…well…everything! During the Covid era, good hand soap is essential. Once you buy the original bottle, you can come in and refill it at a fraction of the price. During Covid, they began selling 38oz bulk refills as well, which, although they do come in plastic packaging, can still be refilled in-store. You also get to choose your scent each time which is great for people like me who can’t make a final decision for their lives. For any Seattleites reading, the Seattle location is the only store that carries all seven scents; I’m partial to Patchouli rose. Especially now, when people are going through hand soap at a much higher rate, having a sustainable alternative is as great for the environment as it is for your wallet.

Some of the brands Follain carries use sustainable packaging as well. Ursa Major, a Vermont-based beauty company, exclusively uses post-consumer plastic containers. Their ethos is about natural simplicity and living the ‘mountain lifestyle.’ I think this mission shows in their products which are best sellers amongst their male clientele. Pangea Organics products can also be found in sustainable packages, all made out of sugarcane. They focus on the relationship between the earth and us, using organic ingredients and environmentally friendly packaging.

I love what Follain is doing for our skin and for the planet, so if you’re a skincare fanatic like me, or even if you’re starting your skincare journey, Follain is a great place to shop.
